BIOGRAPHY
Jeff Saunders is a U.S. based, multi format Director of Photograph. Owner/operator of Panasonic’s Varicam HD camera as well as several standard definition cameras. In his 15 years in the film and television business, Jeff has had a wide variety of opportunities from Co-DPing the first High Definition (CineAlta) feature film shot in the Midwest to Discovery Science Channel’s “100 Greatest Discoveries”: an 8 hour series hosted by Bill Nye “The Science Guy”, shot on High Definition (Varicam).
Jeff is know in some parts of the business for his experience with aviation videography. One highlight includes rigging cameras in cockpits of F-18 Hornets and MIG 29 fighter jets in Germany for the Telly Award winning documentary “Red October. Jeff can also be found filming bison and elk on Super 16mm for “America's Lost Landscapes: The Tallgrass Prairie”, a PBS documentary about the American Prairie.
Doumentary adventures have taken Jeff to all corners of the globe including the Serengetti, Cuba, China’s Great Wall and Angkor Wat to name a few. Several locations throughout Alaska including Kodiak Island, Attu Island and Base camp, Mt. McKinley, From the tallest building in the world in Taiwan, to the beaches of Bali and Zanzibar and shrimp farms in Honduras and Guatemala as well as several countries in Europe and all 50 states in the U.S. Jeff’s niche is travel.
Jeffs clients include National Geographic Telelvision, all of the Discovery Channels including UK and Canada, The History Channel, Animal Planet, ABC, NBC, WGBH-Boston, ESPN and HBO as well as several Fortune 500 companies for his work on corporate documentaries and national film commercials.
Finding interesting ways to tell a story visually and being aware of the sensitivities of each individual involved in the process are strengths that allow Jeff to get award winning, “signature” shots without overlooking the true nature of what is being documented.
In his spare time Jeff enjoys travel, kayaking, hiking and photography
